Why is my radiator not heating?
A radiator that remains cold or heats unevenly is one of the most common heating problems in Brussels. Before calling a heating engineer, here are the checks you can do yourself.
1. Thermostatic valve closed or stuck
The most common cause. The thermostatic valve head on the side of the radiator may be closed or stuck, especially if the radiator hasn't been used for months. Check that the valve is open (position 3 or 4) and turn it several times to free the pin.
2. Air trapped in the radiator
If your radiator is warm at the bottom but cold at the top, there is trapped air inside. Solution: bleed the radiator. Locate the bleed valve (small screw at the top), place a cloth underneath, and open slightly until water starts to flow. Close immediately.
3. Circulation pump failure
If multiple radiators are cold simultaneously, the circulation pump may be faulty. The boiler is running but hot water isn't circulating. Professional intervention required.
